Update: 

The Metro Nashville Police Department has identified six victims of the school shooting at Covenant Church. 

Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all age nine, Cynthia Peak, age 61, Katherine Koonce, age 60, and Mike Hill, age 61.

Shortly after school started Monday morning a shooting took place at The Covenant School in Nashville leaving three children plus the shooter dead. 

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) tweeted later in the morning about the incident, citing "An active shooter event has taken place at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr. The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead."

There are no details at this time as to how many children have been hurt by the incident.

What is known is that "[Three] pediatric patients were transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, all having suffered gunshot wounds," according to John Howser, the Vanderbilt University Medical Center spokesperson. 

The names and ages of the deceased have not been released yet, however, this is a developing story. 

The remaining children from The Covenant School were promptly taken by bus to the nearby church, Woodmont Baptist Church to be safely picked up by parents and guardians.
