A 15-month-old baby remains in critical condition following a serious collision on the south Perimeter Highway Friday afternoon.

The RCMP and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to the collision between St. Anne's Road and St. Mary's Road just after 3 p.m.

STARS Air Ambulance also responded.

Sgt. Paul Manaigre of the RCMP says the collision was a chain reaction.

Officers have determined that a gravel truck, travelling eastbound on the Perimeter, struck an eastbound SUV as they both slowed for the approaching intersection. The SUV, after being struck, spun around and entered the ditch where it rolled. The gravel truck, while attempting to avoid the collision, entered the passing lane and collided with another SUV which was forced onto the median and later came to a stop, as it returned back into the eastbound lane. The gravel truck, after hitting the SUV, had struck the median and rolled onto its passenger side where it spilled its load.

A male and female, along with their 15 month old child, were transported to hospital with serious injuries where both the male and female remain in stable condition while the 15 month old remains in critical.

No other injuries were reported.

This collision remains under investigation.
