A church is determined to meet for Sunday worship after their congregation's building was destroyed in a large Wednesday morning fire.

On Wednesday morning, 355 Langside, the Kirkwood Block at the corner of Portage Avenue, went up in flames. The fire was still smouldering as of Thursday afternoon with crews tending to the ice-covered building. The building is a total loss.

"It’s not believed there were occupants in the area of the building where the fire originated," the City of Winnipeg says in a Thursday statement. "All occupants from other units safely self-evacuated."

Celestial Church of Christ Redemption was one of the groups affected by this, nestled in the north corner of the building beside the parking lot.

"Please, the church and His congregation need the Christian community's prayers as a whole," the church says in a message.

The church moved to its Langside Street location in 2018. Now, they are figuring out where they will go this Sunday.

"We have scheduled a meeting with the elder in the church to determine how and where to gather this Sunday and worship God regardless of the current situation."
