The Manitoba government announced today that they are providing $90,000 to help train newcomers in Winkler and Morden for jobs in the wood manufacturing industry.

Newcomers that undergo this training will receive three weeks of English as an Additional Language (EAL) instruction, four weeks of essential job training that includes applying and working with others, and eight weeks of hands-on training which includes two weeks on a job site.

"We are investing in this training initiative to help connect workers with in-demand jobs in a growing industry," said Education and Training Minister Ian Wishart in a release.

Training started on November 21, 2016, and will run to March 3, 2017. Six of the twelve participants are newcomers or refugees.

"Winkler and Morden are destinations of choice for newcomers," Cameron Friesen, Finance Minister and MLA of Morden-Winkler, said in a release today. "We are pleased to work with the wood manufacturing industry to help newcomers find meaningful employment here in Manitoba."
