Mother's Day will look different this year as officials urge residents to connect virtually or outside in smaller groups.

"We're not done with this virus, we're not back to normal so please limit those group sizes, limit close, prolonged contact," Manitoba's Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin says. "Certainly no one showing even mild symptoms of respiratory illness should attend any type of gathering."

Travel outside the province to a cabin or cottage is also discouraged.

"If people are making their way to cabins, ensure you're limiting your contact with others. Certainly don't travel if you feel at all ill," Roussin adds.

Officials announced one additional case of COVID-19 was identified Friday, bringing Manitoba's total to 284. The new cases was identified as part of a workplace cluster in the Prairie Mountain Health region, bringing the total in that outbreak to eight.

Roussin notes there is no cause for concern, adding affected staff and their close contacts are self-isolating and public health officials are continuing with detailed contact tracing.

Currently, five people are hospitalized, none in intensive care. There are 30 active cases and 247 have recovered. The number of deaths remains at seven.

As of yesterday, an additional 543 laboratory tests were performed. This brings the total number of tests performed since early February to 29,343.
