Winnipeg police say the medical incident on Disraeli has come to a safe resolution.

WPS officers responded just after noon Saturday to the Disraeli Freeway for a person in distress above the railway area.

Traffic was shut down in the area by officers immediately, who began to communicate with the individual.

The WPS crisis negotiation unit arrived soon after and assisted with the individual.

After "extensive communication," the person left the overpass and met with officers at around 4:30 p.m.

The person was taken to hospital for help.

A tweet shared around 1:30 p.m. says Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) officers are currently on scene in the Disraeli Freeway area due to a medical incident.

Traffic on and below the overpass, which is in area of Higgins Ave and Sutherland Ave, is currently being diverted, police say.
