A 25-year-old man is facing two charges in relation to a deadly snowmobile crash earlier this year.

The collision took place shortly after midnight on New Year's Day. The Little Grand Rapids RCMP was called to Main Road at the Winter Road access point, in Pauingassi First Nation at 1:35 a.m.

Two riders on the snowmobile were thrown off of it when it collided with a fishing boat that was on the shore.

A 20-year-old woman from the community was taking to the nursing station but succumbed to her injuries.

The driver, who was 24 at the time, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Both riders were not wearing helmets.

The driver of the snowmobile was arrested and charged on July 22 with Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired Causing Death and Fail to Comply with Undertaking Condition.

Pauingassi First Nation is approximately 280 km northeast of Winnipeg.
