A bike ride in support of the Eden Foundation will be taking place in Winnipeg for the first time.

Ride for Recovery of Hope will be taking place on September 26 in support of the Eden Foundation. The Eden Foundation gives mental health supports across southern Manitoba.

"It is a bit of an unusual year, to be launching events but we are still excited to give it a try and get a Winnipeg ride going," Brad Unger, the program director for Recovery of Hope says.

Previously, the ride was done in collaboration with Ride for Refuge.

This year, the organization decided to branch out by hosting its own event, raising funds to directly support Eden's Sliding Fee Scale Program which helps low-income families access counselling therapy.

"Even though this may be a funny year to be starting a fundraising event, the truth is that we have been quite busy."

The organization says they had their busiest July ever, and that the need for counselling has only grown.

"They can qualify for that and get a reduced rate so that our mission of providing counselling therapy to anybody and everybody who has an interest in it will be able to find an accessible and affordable way to receive counselling therapy."

While the organization has many programs across Manitoba, they are choosing to utilize Manitoba's largest city-centre for their ride.

"We are excited to launch a Winnipeg fundraising bike ride," he says.

Those participating can do it in person, but groups will be staggered.

"We are going to be having small groups, Only those who belong to your household will be in your group.

Unger says that all participants will be required to maintain distancing to provide safety for participants and says that he is excited to have an event in Winnipeg for its supporters.
