The Red River is rising, and in its latest flood update issued Friday, the province says flows and levels north of Emerson are predicted to be at the upper range of the forecast.

Between Emerson and Letellier, the upper range is close to 2006 spring levels, with areas north of Letellier between 2006 and 2019 spring levels.

Water levels are beginning to rise more quickly on the Red, and the peak at Emerson is now anticipated between April 15th and 18th. The peak is expected to reach the Red River Floodway between April 19th and 24th.

Partial dike closures at Emerson on both the Noyes and West Lynne dikes were implemented Friday. Both diked areas will remain accessible by road after the partial closures. Preparations for a closure of the CN Railway at Emerson will also occur over the weekend. Partial closures at Letellier, St Jean, Morris and St. Adolphe may be required as water levels begin rising toward the upper range of the forecast.

Meanwhile, Manitoba Infrastructure indicated its goal is to keep Highway 75 open for as long as possible, but portions of the highway on the north side of Morris could close early next week as water levels rise on the Red River.
