Winnipeg's Old Market Square has been lovingly decorated with 800 colourful handmade scarves earlier this month.

The scarves are available free for the taking to anyone. Chase the Chill Winnipeg's annual graffiti/yarn bombing event distributes handmade scarves in public places. The group's purpose is that those in need regardless of income and without any qualifiers can keep warm during the winter season.

A representative of Chase the Chill Winnipeg said, "we're happy to say we had the most scarves ever this year thanks to the amazing generosity of Winnipeggers."

This group of Chase the Chill volunteers, individuals and groups of stitchers, make the scarves and then come together to paint the town with yarn.

The first chapter was founded in 2008 in Easton PA and now more chapters are spread out over the United States and Canada.

Their mission is to celebrate the art and beauty of hand knitting and crocheting, building community and generating positive interest in a location, and sharing with others.
