Five suspects are facing charges after a man was violently assaulted.

The Winnipeg Police Service says late Tuesday night, a man in his 60s was at the intersection of York Avenue and Fort Street when he was assaulted. Officers say he was stabbed multiple times at the intersection.

A nearby motorist saw the victim and flagged down nearby officers at 9:55 p.m., who immediately began first aid as they were waiting for paramedics.

Police cadets and officers located five suspects on Graham Avenue. Suspected charges include two male youths, two 18-year-old men, and a 20-year-old.

The victim was brought to the hospital in critical condition and has since upgraded to stable.

All are facing Aggravated Assault charges, and one adult is facing weapons-related offences.
