Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Winnipeg, as well as much of the southeast.

Environment Canada says that a low-pressure system moving through southern Manitoba could develop a "dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts."

The storms are expected to move out of the province by this evening.

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, nickel to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain.

This severe thunderstorm is located near Big Birch Island and is moving to the east/southeast at approximately 40 km/h towards the Eriksdale/Lundar Beach region.
