An investigative group of Christian leaders is being formed to address allegations of sexual misconduct brought against Fresh Fire USA founder Todd Bentley.

In a Facebook post addressed to the Church on August 22, Stephen Powell, founder of Lion of Light Ministries, publically accused Bentley of numerous instances of sexual misconduct.

As a result of the allegations, a group of church leaders is initiating an investigation into the claims, according to an online statement posted by Michael Brown.

Brown says that the charges against Bentley have raised the question of whether there is accountability in the church.

"In response to this, I have been tasked by a number of senior leaders in the Body to assemble a group of trusted and respected men of God who will review the charges against Todd and make a determination, in accordance with 1 Corinthians 6," Brown said in his post. Though lacking in judicial authority, Brown says that they hope the strong leaders present in the proceedings will ensure fair and thorough proceedings in dealing with the charges that have been voiced against the evangelist.

"It is our hope that this will set an example of a righteous way to handle disputes and accusations such as these for others in the Church, especially in non-denominational circles where it is often more difficult to establish patterns of accountability."

Brown says he believes it is wrong to ignore the issues that have been voiced regarding Bentley's conduct and hopes that a form of closure and healing will be found through this process.

"While it is wrong and ungodly to sweep things under the rug, it is also wrong and ungodly to turn serious accusations into an internet show. Following God's order will result in compassionate and righteous outcomes rather than chaos, pain, and confusion."

The board will be responsible for coming to conclusions on how the charges against Bentley and his ministry will be dealt with going forward.
