The finish line is in sight for Siloam Mission and their $19 million expansion project.

Siloam Mission CEO Jim Bell said, "Today we celebrate progress as we mark one year since breaking ground on this important project. It will be a tremendous catalyst for hope, recovery and transition in the lives of people in our city who need it most. And it's all because of you."

The new expansion will include room for 50 new shelter beds, along with creating designated shelter space for women.

There will be more space for the Mission's health services, mental health supports, transition services and volunteer resource areas.

Something new that will be offered to those in need is a showering area. One of the tour guides stated that showering is only currently available to those using the beds, but with the expansion, showering will be available to anyone on the streets who would like to utilize this service.

Another exciting addition is the laundry facility which will be available to those in need as well.

The two-storey building will create 54,300 square feet total of new program space and will link Siloam's existing shelter building at 300 Princess Street with the new 400 seat dining area and kitchen, at 303 Stanley Street, which opened in the fall of 2017.

With 90 per cent of the funds committed already, Siloam Mission is hoping to raise the remaining $1.9 million to complete the campaign this year.
