Heavy snow will continue today for much of northern Manitoba after the region has already received between 10 and 20 centimetres.

A low pressure system has been moving through the region and will leave one final dump of snow on Wednesday. Accumulation amounts vary by areas, but many will likely see total amounts between 15 and 25 cm.

While most areas have been under snowfall warnings, The Pas has been under a winter storm warning.

Another 2 to 4 cm of snow is expected for the city today, with total amounts estimated to be between 20 and 30 cm.

Environment Canada is urging people to consider postponing non-essential travel until the storm lets up. The forecaster says visibility will likely become suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

More snow in the south

Much of southern Manitoba will see more snow moving through on Wednesday, as well, though some will see more than others.

The Parkland, Westman, and Pembina Valley can expect periods of light snow ending near noon.

Another 2 to 4 cm is likely for Central Plains, the Interlake, the southeast, and parts of the Red River Valley, including the City of Winnipeg. Temperatures will drop today to -4 by the afternoon, after staying above the freezing mark overnight.

The entire province can expect windy conditions, with a northwest wind blowing at 50 km/h and gusts at 70 km/h at times.

The snow is expected to end this evening from west to east.
