Preparations for Remembrance Day are underway, the City of Winnipeg is getting Christmas lights up, and southern Manitoba is getting a blast of above-average temperatures for much of the week.

"A pretty prominent upper ridge has built across the prairies," Brad Vrolijk from Environment Canada says.

That means almost everywhere "across the southern prairies will see very warm temperatures for the next few days."

For the City of Winnipeg, that means daytime highs reach the low teens.

However, Vrolijk says, areas further west in Manitoba could get even warmer.

"Some places in the western Red River Valley, and close to the western escarpment, and along that up towards Dauphin, there's a chance that they could reach 20 degrees with those southwest winds coming down."

The above-average temperatures should last through Thursday, with a return to "closer to seasonal conditions" around the end of the week Vrolijk says.
