Local charity Sunshine House received $10,000 this past weekend after winning the Fast Pitch 2017 Showcase held by The Winnipeg Foundation.

“Obviously, we were really excited,” said Margaret Ormond, Special Projects Manager at Sunshine House. “But, you know, the competition was very stiff. Even at the semi-final event, the pitches were very, very good.”

The inner-city community drop-in and resource centre focuses on harm-reduction, population health promotion, and social inclusion.

For the winning pitch, Sunshine House focused on the people who drop in, and projects that recognize their abilities and give them a sense of ownership and a sense of their increased capacity to return value to the community.

The $10,000 will go to developing an old garage into an urban greenhouse. The plan is to have program participants from Sunshine House help out at every stage of the process, stated Ormond.
