Burnt remains are left where a house once stood before an alleged arson.

Smoke poured over parts of Sagkeeng First Nation, along the Winnipeg River, during Monday's early hours. When Powerview RCMP arrived at a Highway 11 home at 12:15 a.m., they saw the entire building engulfed in flames and smoke stretching into the sky.

Officers saw two men outside the home, aged 19 and 25, after they escaped from the burning home, and a third man, a 44-year-old, at the scene.

After investigating, police say they are charging the 44-year-old with Arson, and two counts of Arson-Disregard for Human Life. The suspect is in custody.

Investigations continue with RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
