An intoxicated man received a free ride from RCMP officers early Sunday morning after hopping into the back of an unmarked car.

On August 9 at around 5:00 a.m. two RCMP units in Portage la Prarie arrived at the scene or a domestic disturbance call.

After noticing the authorities, the 19-year-old ran from police, subsequently hopping into the unmarked RCMP car, saying, "take me to 17th Street, bro."

It was then that the 19-year-old discovered the vehicle he jumped into to evade the police, was in fact being driven by the police and was in fact not a taxi.

RCMP says officers did give the man a free ride but did not take him to 17th Street. Instead, they drove the man to Lorne Avenue East, the RCMP detachment in Portage la Prairie.

The man was detained until he was sober and was then released by RCMP.
