A 17-year-old is in custody after allegedly pointing a gun at people on Thanksgiving.

On Monday night, RCMP in Portage la Prairie received several calls that a man walking in the area of Lorne Avenue West and 8th Street NW had a firearm on him and was pointing it at people.

RCMP say that they also received a report of hearing gunshots.

A vehicle with passengers was shot, creating damage, but the passengers were uninjured. 

At approximately 9:00 p.m. local RCMP responded with RCMP Police Dog Services and the RCMP Emergency Response Team. Searching for almost half an hour, officers located the person matching witness descriptions. Officers then found a firearm nearby.

RCMP say the 17-year-old is facing a list of firearm charges including:

  • Discharge a Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life
  • Point Firearm x3
  • Intentionally Discharge a Firearm
  • Possession of a Prohibited Firearm
  • Possession for a Purpose Dangerous to the Public Peace

RCMP say the teen is currently in custody.
