For a whole month starting today a Winnipeg Dental Centre is donating money for every patient to help those feeling from the war in Ukraine.

Dr. Travis Friesen is the dentist at iDental Centre in downtown Winnipeg. His wife, Heidi, joins him there as one of the dental hygienists.

"We wanted to do something to help, but how can we do that? How can we make sure we can afford to do that?" says Heidi. "I was praying about it and I said, 'God I don't know what to do.' I had this idea come to my mind that starting today until April 15 that for every hygiene patient that comes in, we will make a donation."

The couple is giving $25 for every hygiene patient, for kids $15, and for any new patient, iDental is donating $50 towards those struggling in Ukraine.

"We're donating to Doctors Without Borders for medical supplies," she says. "We're also donating to World Vision and they are helping with refugees from Ukraine that are fleeing to Romania right now."

The dental clinic has been run by Dr. Friesen and the team since 2010.

"I've always felt the best way to get out of trouble is to give," says Heidi. "The idea is from God. This way He decides how much we give."

The couple has four children, their youngest just four months old. Heidi stays at home but still works as a part-time hygienist once a week.

"It's affecting everybody in the world. Any one of us could have been born there," says Travis, referring to Ukraine.

The moment of needing to find a way to help came from one video in particular.

"It really hit home for us when we saw this video of a father holding his little girl's hand, walking with just one little bag. We thought that could be us," says Heidi.
