Can you imagine standing in a line of 700 people for two hours, just to receive a Bible?

According to Mission Network News, that's exactly what happened in Belize.

Mission Cry is an organization that equips native missionaries around the world by sending donated Bibles and Christian books. The situation in Belize isn't a unique, according to the ministry, who receives donations of gently used Bibles and faith-based books in the United States before shipping them to over 174 countries.

Executive Director of Mission Cry, Reverend Jason Woolford, says the organization frequently hears stories of how God is using the donations they receive in important ways.

“There was a woman in Uganda who we’ve just gotten a picture from ... She was praising God and our partner who distributed [a Bible] to her told us that this woman at the age of 24-years -old had been praying her whole life for her very own Bible ... She got a used Bible and she was praising God for hours and crying and thanking the Lord," says Woolford.

Over the past 11 years, Mission Cry has shipped the equivalent of $13 million worth of Bibles and other Christian literature, with over 1.5 million people impacted.

The organization also distributes children's Bibles. This work can often prove dangerous, for distributors and recipients.

In Nigeria, Woolford says there are children “who have had their hands chopped off because they became believers, and [have] not even had a Bible or a children’s book to read about the very God that they’re being martyred for.”

When asked whether language can be a barrier, Woolford explains that Bibles in English are just as effective in other countries, as residents in many countries can speak up to four or five languages. As the "financial language of the world," English remains very well known across the globe.

Despite fewer recent donations to Mission Cry, the ministry says the need for Bibles has not lessened, and in fact, the group has begun producing their own Bible. The Mission Cry NASB Bible includes the New Testament and the G300 discipleship program.

Those with extra Bibles, seminary textbooks, Bible studies, commentaries on Scripture, and other Christian books are encouraged to take a look through their shelves to donate.

“We’re taking God’s Word and giving it around the world because His Word is the only thing that doesn’t return void," shared Woolford.
