"Receiving an award at the Dove’s is a sweet honor and I’m thankful. I also know that it’s never the goal," says Kari Jobe.

The 52 annual GMA Dove Awards took place in person in Nashville, Tennessee and aired on Friday, October 22. Jobe and her team of writers took home the prestigious award, Song of the Year, for 'The Blessing.'

"I started leading worship around the age of 13," says Jobe on Facebook, explaining how she felt about the award. "Grew up extremely impacted in worship and how the presence of God will start to move through a room and shift an atmosphere and change everything."

Jobe goes on to say she's had a part in big songs that have carried her, and churches, through certain times of worship. Singles like 'Revelation Song' and 'Forever.'

"Now, about 2-3 years ago I began to cry out for a new anthem. I would get on my face before the Lord and desire a song to sing over the church to help her remember her worth and authority. I kept saying, 'I love the church and I just want songs on my new album that soar and help people sing out promises from You.'"

Jobe and her husband Cody Carnes also attend Elevation Church, therefore, the song was first introduced with the Elevation Worship band. Jobe received the Dove Award alongside her husband, Cody Carnes, who helped write it.

"It was one of the sweetest days, the day we wrote 'The Blessing'. I cried and poured out my heart to the guys as we wrote that day. Sharing my heart and my past experiences in worship leading. Before the day's end, we all began leaning in on the idea of the blessing and my heart began to come alive like I can’t explain."

The song was initially released just days after things started to shut down because of COVID-19.

"It was such a sweet experience. We led it 2 days later at Elevation Church and you know the rest of the story. I’ve never experienced what I experienced in those following weeks and months. Emails, texts, video tags, shares and posts flooded in. We’d sit at night to catch up on it all. I would sit and weep over the fact that God knew what we all needed in such a scary and unknown time."

With more than 41 different versions and languages globally, 'The Blessing' topped the charts in 34 countries and Top 5 in 77 countries on Apple Christian and Gospel genre charts.
