For Valour FC midfielder, Raphael Ohin, life consists of two main priorities: faith and soccer. In that order.

The chance to play for Valour is one that Ohin, 23, describes as amazing. "This is what I've just been waiting for and it finally is so I just have to enjoy the moment at the same time working hard."

Having grown up in Ghana, soccer was always a part of Ohin's life and culture.

"I may not be a good talker... but at least my lifestyle can win souls to God."

"My mom said when I was just one, I always fight (sic) people over a soccer ball... even balls that [didn't] belong to me," Ohin laughed. Even at one, the athlete's mom recognized Ohin's passion and promptly purchased him his own ball.

"It's part of who I am... my siblings play, I play, it kind of runs in the family."

Soccer has made up only half of the most crucial parts of Ohin's life, however.

"I go to church. Every Sunday. I can't miss church," Ohin smiled. "Not only going to church, but Christianity is more about your relationship with God. Everyone can go to church, but not everyone is a Christian. Your relationship is what matters."

Evidently the most important relationship in Ohin's life, the soccer player intentionally makes time in his day for God, from the locker room to his home life. It's what keeps him going, says the midfielder.

"Everything has a beginning, has an end, and my career will eventually come to an end, but God will still be God."

It was in God's perfect timing that Ohin says he had the opportunity to try out for Valour. Having previously played for teams in Switzerland, Germany, Thailand, and Sweden, the midfielder was playing for WFC Manitoba when he tried out for Winnipeg's new professional soccer team.

"It's been an amazing journey through the ups and the downs," Ohin shared. "I never gave up. The only thing that kept me going was my faith."

Christianity and faith have remained a large part of Ohin's journey, both on and off the pitch.

"We just say, 'God first,'" said the midfielder. "I have to do my job, but at the same time, I just have to hold onto my faith, because that's what will keep me going. Everything has a beginning, has an end, and my career will eventually come to an end, but God will still be God."

"My number one secret is Jesus Christ."

Faith is something Ohin wears on his sleeve, particularly when it comes to his online presence and social media.

"We are called to win souls into the kingdom of God. Wherever you are, wherever you find yourself, God can use you everywhere you are," said Ohin.

"I may not be a good talker... but at least my lifestyle can win souls to God."

That's the attitude Ohin has not only used to tackled his career but also to give back to the community as a volunteer coach with WFC Manitoba. He has enjoyed opportunities running mini soccer academies and working with refugees new to the city.

Valour FC's season will open with the team's inaugural home game on Saturday, May 4.

"I'm excited. We're here to make Winnipeg proud," shared Ohin. "The city has been great in supporting this team... we're ready to represent the badge and at the same time play for the city."

Ohin says the team is ready to kick off the season after hundreds of hours spent practising and a strong pre-season.

As for himself, the midfielder feels prepared, strong, and ready to play the game he loves knowing he has a force at his back.
