Christian music's biggest night took place Friday evening and while people may have took home the awards, it was Jesus getting the praise.

The 2022 GMA Dove Awards were actually filmed earlier this week in Nashville and then broadcast last night on TBN.

Gospel music legend Cece Winans added two more awards to her trophy case, including being named Artist of the Year. Winans' song "Believe For It," which spent an unbelievable 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart and seven weeks at No. 1 on the Christian Airplay chart.

Newcomer Anne Wilson received her first and second-ever trophies. She won New Artist of the Year as well as Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year for "My Jesus." Wilson co-wrote that song with Matthew West and Jeff Pardo. Here debut album, My Jesus, rose to No. 1 within roughly just two weeks of its release date.

"My Jesus" shot Wilson to recognition throughout the Contemporary Christian Music world, and it is a song with deep meaning. Wilson was inspired to write the song after the death of her brother, Jacob. In her speech she thanked her late brother, saying “You inspire me and that’s why I do what I do, is to honor Jacob," according to Billboard. "Most of all I want to thank Jesus for his grace, his mercy and his forgiveness…I’m so thankful for all the artists in this category as well. You are changing lives and I’m so grateful.”

Phil Wickham took home an impressive three awards, including being named the songwriter of the year for artists. Jason Ingrim was named songwriter of the year for non-artists.

Chris Tomlin hosted the evening alongside Erica Campbell. In a Facebook post, after the airing of the awards show, Tomlin said "A night I will truly never forget… one that is all about coming together to celebrate the sound of heaven. A huge congratulations to all the winners last night and to everyone who made the night so powerful!"

Tomlin took home his own award for Christmas/Special Event Album of the Year with his Christmas Songs Of Worship (Live) album.
