A Winnipeg church says that an upcoming worship night will be helping break free from chains in their lives.

"The Uncuffed" will be a night of "worship and Word" that Redeemed Christian Church of God Rhema Sanctuary says they're "trusting God that all of the City of Winnipeg" will attend. The event, they say, is to respond to difficult times with worship and to declare God's truth over people's lives

"There's nothing better to do than praise God as a community"

"About three months ago we had an incident in our church where some people broke into the church and took all of our worship instruments," Pastor Yettie Adewumi says. She's a co-pastor at Rhema Sanctuary along with her husband Dipo.

What was a devastating setback for the church turned into an amazing blessing. "The community came to our rescue; people bought us equipment, people gave to us. And, before you knew it, where we used to be was now not where we are. Now we had brand new equipment and doing more things for God."

The evening will feature pastor and author Bryan Meadows bringing a message, and worship with musical guests Tim Reddick and Fresh IE.

In the midst of rising crime rates, inflation, homelessness and addiction crises in Winnipeg, and natural disasters in the country, the pastors say they wanted to encourage others who are facing these trials.

"The ministry is all about reaching out to people," Pastor Dipo says. "The Bible says we are all born with the shackles of sin, but because God sent his only begotten son to die on the cross on Calvary and shed his blood, we can all share in the redemption of Christ."

Dipo says they hope lives will be touched, and "lost hope will be revived, sickness and diseases will die as a result of this program, and then the glory will return to the almighty God."

Giving back

Tickets are $50 to help cover the expenses of the event, but the Adewumis and their church also wanted to make sure they were giving back. Usually, whenever Rhema Sanctuary hosts ticketed events they give part of the proceeds to Siloam Mission. They'll do that again, but they've also decided to partner with the Canadian Red Cross as well.

Those donations will go towards the Red Cross emergency fund for victims of the post-tropical storm Fiona on Canada's east coast.
