If recent world events have taught us anything, it’s that life doesn’t always look the way we want it to look.
Author Mandy Hale says that while we can’t control the curveballs life throws at us, we can control our response to them. We can choose to loosen our grip on what we think life is “supposed” to be and embrace life for exactly what it is–messiness and mayhem and all. We can choose to stubbornly turn toward the sun, even as the storm rages around us.

Pope sorry for forced assimilation of Indigenous people at residential schools, full text of apology
Pope Francis says he is sorry for the Roman Catholic Church’s role in cultural destruction and forced assimilation of Indigenous people, which culminated in residential schools.
Francis apologized Monday in front of residential school survivors and elders in Maskwacis, Alta., south of Edmonton after visiting the site of the former Ermineskin Indian Residential School.
$31,000 raised in weekend Touch-A-Truck event
A Touch-a-Truck fundraiser took place in Kleefeld Saturday bringing in around $31,000 to help with 3-year-old Hallie Thiessen’s medical expenses.
She battles a rare medical condition with severe complications.

Made in Manitoba TV sitcom looking for Mennonite and Filipino actors
Set in Winkler, Man. an upcoming sitcom called Maria and the Mennos is looking for their all-Manitoban cast and crew to play an interesting set of characters.
"It's about a Filipino Canadian woman who moves in with her Mennonite in-laws," says Paul Plett, one of the Mennonite creators of the show. "It's a super Manitoba story. I'm Mennonite and I've always wanted to do something more in the Mennonite space here in Manitoba. I'm also a filmmaker here in Winnipeg and I collaborate with a lot of Filipino-Canadians."
S.O.S. saves distressed hiker on Mantario Trail
After 12-plus hours somewhere on the Mantario Trail, the missing hiker has been found.
Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report on Monday, July 25, at approximately 7:15 p.m. that a woman was in distress, on the Mantario Trail in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
35th Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival ends with proposal
The Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival is finishing up another year of shows and is sharing its success with the public.
"After three long years, I was so pleased to once again see Fringers bustling throughout the Exchange District enjoying the 111 incredible indoor productions as well as the crowds taking in the bands and performers in Old Market Square," says Executive Producer Chuck McEwen in the media release. "I know all of the artists really appreciated the opportunity to once again share their stories in person with our incredible Fringe fans. We were proud to see almost 60,000 tickets sold for the event and to return over $536,000 to the performers."
Youth have opportunity to make a difference with national program
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is calling all youth between the ages of 13-21 to join the National Youth Advisory Committee (NYAC).
Applications are now available to Canadian residents to apply to be part of the RCMP's National Youth Advisory Committee which allows youth to have a say and discuss important decisions on topics within their communities.

A 13-year-old girl from Texas is showing everyone that there is no limit to achieving your dreams as she becomes the youngest person to be accepted into med school.
On June 30 Alena Wicker from Dallas, Texas became the youngest person and black female to get accepted into med school at the University of Alabama Heersink School of Medicine.

Last week the female youth 17 softball teams played provincials and instead of huge disappointments or a rivalry, two teams were cheering each other on.
"Our whole team went into provincials and we thought we were going to have a good outcome because we have a very strong team," says Faith Minsky. "We did good in the round-robin games. We got to the playoffs. The first day we did really well and then the next day we lost to see if we went into the gold or bronze medal game."
