A family in northern Manitoba is mourning the loss of a one-year-old girl after she was hit by a vehicle and died.

On August 7, 2022, at approximately 6:55 p.m., Shamattawa RCMP received a report that a young child had been struck by a car and was deceased.

Officers learned that a 14-month-old girl had been struck while on the driveway of a residence. She was rushed to the Nursing Station, where she was pronounced deceased.

The initial investigation has determined that the child went in front of the vehicle while it was parked. The driver, unaware the toddler was outside and by the vehicle, started to drive, and the child was struck.

The RCMP is saying that at this point in the investigation, no criminality is suspected.

The investigation is ongoing.
