Motorists are reporting poor and dangerous driving conditions Thursday morning, and some highways are closed after nasty weather swept through the province.

Freezing rain has left many highways ice-covered. Several accidents were reported on the Perimeter Highway and the Trans-Canada overnight.

Highway 1 was closed from Portage la Prairie to the Ontario border. Manitoba Infrastructure says the major highway has since been reopened and is reporting good winter driving conditions in some areas.

Some highways in western Manitoba are still closed, including the Yellowhead Highway from Foxwarren to the Saskatchewan border, and Highway 45 from Rossburn to the Saskatchewan border.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution if they must travel on open highways Thursday.
