EARLIER:

Emergency crews are on scene of a serious collision Friday evening in between Portage and Winnpeg.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 1 have been closed from 4.8 km west of Elie to 1.6 km east of Elie, according to a notice from Manitoba Infrastructure.

Snow and high winds have made for difficult driving conditions on a number of highways. A witness tells Golden West that visibility in the area is very poor.

It's not clear how many vehicles are involved in the collision.

The witness says that STARS Air Ambulance arrived at the scene.

There's no word at this time how long the closure may last.
