A Winnipeg tradition of yelling "True North!" during the singing of O Canada at Jets games had a different take on Friday night when the anthem was sung in Ojibwe.

Some took to Twitter to teach everyone how to yell it in Ojibwa.

The group Strong Warrior Girls Anishinaabe Singers sang the anthem, decked out in newly-designed Indigenous Jets t-shirts.

The night held significant meaning for many. In one comment posted to the Winnipeg Jets Facebook page, a woman wrote, "Watching the opening ceremony was the best!! Seeing my brother walk out in his well earned headdress brought me to tears and filled me with pride. Many Miigwetches to the Winnipeg Jets organization for the Aboriginal representation, the beautiful rendition of O Canada as sung by the young girls and the Drum group. Winnipeg, you rock!"

It was part of the Winnipeg Jets' Winnipeg Aboriginal Sport Achievement Centre Night, which also included the Winnipeg Jets wearing new Indigenous jerseys during the pre-skate.
