The Gates Foundation, run by Bill and Melinda Gates, has given Doctor Megan Azda a grant "to establish a new global health initiative."

International Milk Composition (IMiC) Consortium is Dr. Azad's latest project.

The grant will allow a team of researchers to explore what is in breast milk that helps infants grow and strengthen their immune system.

“Breast milk is fascinating,” says Dr. Azad in a statement made by the Children's Hospital. "It is so fundamentally important to infant health, and yet we know surprisingly little about breast milk composition and its variation around the world."

The team will look at breast milk in other countries such as Tanzania, Pakistan, Nepal, and Burkina Faso.

Over 1200 mother/infant teams will be studied to discover how geography affects breast milk.

"(I am) so excited to be leading this new project! Dr. Azda tweets.

The project will look at the vitamins, nutrients, and other factors in a mother's milk and its effects on newborns.
