There's still plenty of time to make a conscious effort to be kind today, or any day for that matter.

Today is the third annual Conscious Kindness Day by the United Way.

Kingsley Bowles is the chair of the concious kindness committee. He says the hope is the kindness continues on into "tomorrow, the next day, (and) throughout the year."

He says the concept of conscious kindness day is for people to be purposefully kind.

"The hope is, it's really, we hand this out to the community and we say, 'Do your act of kindness today, think about it, whatever it is you want to do, whatever is personal to you.' The gesture is what's important."

United Way is encouraging people to share their kind deeds on social media using the hashtag #KindMB.

United Way volunteers were handing out donuts and coffee this morning on Main Street. They were giving two treats each, encouraging people to pass on their seconds.

The Manitoba government has declared this week Kindness Week.
