Gordon Edward Pashe, 37, has been identified as the man the Winnipeg Police service found on the sidewalk Wednesday morning.

As they were driving past, the police found the man on the sidewalk of the Salter Street and Redwood Avenue intersection. They determined he was assaulted and initiated first aid at the scene.

Pashe was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead by staff. The Winnipeg Police say there is a potential that this was related to their earlier operation that morning at the 300 block of Salter. This is the 43rd homicide in Winnipeg in 2019.

Constable Ron Carver of the Winnipeg Police says the fact that the murder occurred on Christmas will not affect the investigation.

"The nature of homicides is that they are random," Constable Carver says. "They are all tragic."

Pashe is a known person to the Winnipeg Police Service. No arrests have been made at this time.
