Dozens of people gathered in front of the house where a 14-year-old lost her life on Saturday evening, to pray and remember her.

The girl and an 18-year-old female were stabbed when an argument at a Halloween party escalated, the Winnipeg Police Service says. Police were called to the home in the 100 block of Kinver Avenue around 10:45 p.m.

The 18-year-old victim has since been upgraded to stable condition. On Tuesday the WPS charged two teenage girls with Second Degree Murder and Attempt to Commit Murder. They have been detained in custody.

Those that gathered on Tuesday night lit candles and held pictures of the young girl. She was described as happy and outgoing by friends and family gathered there.

The girl's family has asked for privacy as they grieve her loss.

Her death was the first of three homicides within a few hours this past weekend. Winnipeg has now had 36 homicides this year and is on pace to see the most homicides in a year, which is 41.
