Manitobans and people across the country will have a special opportunity to come together in prayer for the situation in Ukraine and to help the millions of children and families affected by the crisis.

World Vision is already on the ground along Ukraine's borders helping people who are fleeing the Russian invasion that has led to untold devastation. "We have teams that are on the ground near the borders that were there the moment the story broke, the moment we started seeing refugees across the border," says Chris Schroeder from World Vision. "Because we work in almost 100 countries around the globe, we had people that were there and ready to serve. We had resources ready to go."

Schroeder says that by the time we had information in Canada about refugees arriving at the borders of neighbouring countries, World Vision staff were already on the ground and receiving those people. Schroeder is the church consultant for World Vision across the Canadian Prairies and works with local churches to find ways to partner with World Vision's work around the globe. That now includes a special event in Winnipeg that people from across the country will have a chance to take part in.

The event:

ONE Night for Ukraine will be a night of prayer, worship, and give people an opportunity to hep financially if they are able. It takes place on Saturday, April 9 at Bethel Community Church (430 Lakewood Blvd.) beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The event is free but people need to pre-register by clicking here.

You can also choose to attend the event virtually from anywhere when going to the link above. For those that can't make it in person, Schroeder says he hopes that churches and individuals will have screening parties. It's a great chance to gather small groups and church communities to watch live, pray alongside us, and find out other ways we can help Ukrainian refugees.

"With music from the ONE Worship band and special guest, Jordan Janzen of The Color, we’ll lift our voices together to pray for a swift resolution to the conflict and restoration for Ukraine and the lives that have been impacted."
