A wild turkey is set for surgery Monday morning after being rescued in downtown Winnipeg.

The turkey was found on Friday wandering along Portage Avenue. While many people shared pictures of the turkey on social media, some realized it was injured and called the City.

Winnipeg Animal Services says that the Winnipeg Police Service Cadets, Manitoba Conservation Manitoba Government, and Animal Services all worked together to rescue the turkey near Portage Place. The turkey was taken to Wildlife Have for a checkup.

Wildlife Haven says that the turkey has a severe toe fracture and will have surgery at Winrose Animal Hospital.
