A worship band out of Calgary is sharing their songs of celebration and joy with the 'church' of Canada.

Michael Larson is the Worship Pastor at First Assembly Church in Calgary, Alberta, and leads the group called Tehillah Worship. He's also a songwriter/singer.

"Tehillah is actually one of the Hebrew words for praise. When the original founders of Tehillah formed this gathering, a young adult-focused gathering that happened on Monday nights, they thought it would be a good name. It's been a community for 30 years."

Larson has been leading Tehillah Worship for the past ten years.

"We just recently started again releasing albums and writing songs that would encourage our church and gathering, in the last seven or eight years."

In 2019 Tehillah Worship released their EP called All Your Colours

"We're pretty excited about it. We believe Canada has a song to sing. It's really cool when churches sing their own song and expression about what God is doing in their own communities. We're doing our little part."

The EP has six tracks, including their single available for radio play called, 'My Victory'.

"There are about six or seven of us that are leading worship and writing, but our entire worship community at Tehillah is really a part of what we're doing and expressing. Before COVID we started touring in Western Canada and we could send a team out to Northern Alberta but still have a team at church on Sunday."

The group has a different model than most bands out there, but similar to Hillsong United or Elevation Worship.

"It's a bit more work and it might be a bit more time to get things rolling but this is what we feel the Lord is leading us to do," he says.

Tehillah Worship writes and releases each song with a specific focus for their audience.

"We really feel that Tehilla worship will be marked by celebration and joy. Let's face it, we need it, especially today."

Alberta and Manitoba announced tighter restrictions for the coronavirus's third wave in the past week, reminding people that we are not yet down with this worldwide pandemic.

"We need God-songs to help get us through. Even our song 'My Victory' is focused on celebration, victory, and inspired by the story with the walls of Jericho coming down as God's people shout. We feel like the church in Canada needs celebration and joy."
