Week one athletes are heading home to Manitoba and week two athletes are arriving as it’s a transition day at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island.

Competition in week one sports wrapped up Saturday.

Team Toba dropped a 75-46 decision to Quebec in the bronze medal game in wheelchair basketball.

Manitoba lost 5-4 to New Brunswick in Ringette’s fifth place game.

Noah Leppelmann of Beausejour finished seventh in Free Style Skiiing Dual Moguls.

Anne Hargraves, Emily Hargraves, Portia Ireland and Taryn Znidarec of Winnipeg finished fourth in Squash Female Team Competition.

Owen Borland, Dylan Erb, Ivo Thiessen and Will Znidarec of Winnipeg finished fifth in Squash Male Team Competition.

Team Toba won six medals in week one and five of those were in speedskating.

Sofia Bieber, who was our province’s flag bearer for the opening ceremonies, won gold in the 500 metres, 1000 metres and the women’s mass start. The 17-year-old Winnipegger also captured silver medals in the 1500 meters and the team pursuit with Robyn Salie, Lindsay Smart and Skylar Van Horne.

Victoria Lee and Grace Qi earned Team Toba’s first medal of the Games as they captured silver in female doubles in Table Tennis.

Week two sports include Alpine Skiing, Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Cross Country Skiing, Male & Mixed Doubles Curling, Fencing, Figure Skating, Female Hockey, Judo and Snowboard.
