One individual is in stable condition after being rescued from the Assiniboine River Wednesday night.

At 10:18 p.m., Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of an individual in the river near the Assiniboine Park bridge. The reports indicated that the individual was moving down the river with the current.

Crews quickly set up at strategic points along the river to locate the individual and launched WFPS water rescue boats to help the search. The crews, along with the Winnipeg Police Service were aided by the WPS drone and Air-1.

The individual was located near Ferry Road and Park Boulevard North and brought to safety by the WFPS water rescue crew. They were transported to the hospital in stable condition after being assessed and treated by paramedics.

The reason that the individual was in the water is not known at this time.

Due to the heavy rain recently, river levels are high and swift-moving so Winnipeggers are reminded to use extreme caution around any Winnipeg waterway. There may be seen and unseen debris in the water.
