Fire crews say there were unable to locate three cats that they believe were in the home at the time of a residential fire.

Late Sunday night the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) was called to the 2600 block of Main Street. When arriving at 11:45 p.m at the mobile home, heavy smoke and flames were seen pouring out of the home.

Two neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution. The City of Winnipeg says all of the home's occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrive.

Officers then launched an offensive attack to the exterior, labelling the fire under control at 12:24 a.m. Monday.

One person was sent to the hospital, where they remain in stable condition. The three cats believed to be in the home at the time of the fire have not been located.

WFPS crews are investigating the cause of the fire.
