When John arrived at the airport, he knew he was close to being safely welcomed with his contacts. Then the customs officer asked him to open his suitcase.

John, a pseudonym, is a Bible smuggler working in a Middle Eastern country that cannot be named. He was trying to make a successful run bringing Bibles into the country.

Open Doors USA reports one of many stories from a bible smuggler working in the Middle East.

John was going through customs at around 9:30 p.m. and he hoped he would be waved through without the contents of his bag - Bibles - being examined.

That didn't happen.

old he was to be deported back to his country.

Open Doors has smuggled Bibles as part of their ministry since they began. The organization's founder, Brother Andrew, and his growing team brought Bibles behind the Iron Curtain into Soviet areas. Brother Andrew was nicknamed "God's Smuggler."

Brother Andrew used to pray that "seeing eyes would be blinded" when he brought Bibles across the border.

Smuggling is still the bread and butter of Open Doors' work. John works for the organization, bringing Bibles into places they are not allowed to secret believers desperate to read God's Word.

all that happened. It went different than I had planned. He decided to change everything for this one soul. I was just a spectator. Thanks to my Father, thank you, Jesus."

Another group was more successfully able to deliver the Bibles and other books they brought in to the country.

A member of the group says their suitcases were full of Arab Bibles.

"We had a good trip to the country. The airplane landed with an hour delay, but we arrived at the address where we would stay," the person explained.

They called their contact the next day. Their contact came to pick them up and helped them deliver their "presents" to his church.
