A federal holiday has been declared for Monday, September 19, to mourn Queen Elizabeth II, but that doesn't mean everything is closed.

Provinces had the choice of observing the day or not. Premier Heather Stefanson announced that Manitoba would observe the day with exceptions.

Government services

All non-essential federal government offices will be closed.

All non-essential provincial government offices will be closed.

MPI services will be closed except for driver testing and claims processing.

The Winnipeg Police Service says criminal record checks and fingerprint services will not be available.

City of Winnipeg services will operate as normal. That includes libraries, pools, and recreation centres.

Schools

Public schools and daycare centres are open.

The University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg, Université de Saint-Boniface, and Red River College Polytechnic have cancelled classes. 

Canadian Mennonite University, Providence University College, and Steinbach Bible College will host classes as usual.

Shopping

Most stores will remain open today. That includes major shopping malls and grocery stores which are open with normal operating hours.
