The Winnipeg Richardson International Airport has been declared one of the best by travelers.

Airports Council International has named the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport the third best airport in North America in terms of airport service quality. The award is decided on by the customers who use the airport.

"It's a great achievement for us," Tyler MacAfee, Director of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. "It's something that comes from the people who are using our airport."

MacAfee says good service starts with their mission statement and then goes through every worker at the airport. "We're here to serve our community and that's really what drive us."

The airport will likely see an increase in volume, as the Canada Summer Games hits Winnipeg this summer. MacAfee says that part of the role of host is to showcase the city and province, which starts when they arrive in the airport. "It's going to be the first impression and the last impression."

Henrick is experiencing that right now, as he heads home to Ottawa. "It's nice and open, it's bright, and the people are friendly," Henrick said. He was in good spirits as he read his book, waiting for a plane that had been delayed by nine hours.

Cheryl is a more frequent traveller and loves Stella's. She has been very impressed with the airport during her travels. "I've never had any trouble, I always like being here," Cheryl said.

The Winnipeg Richardson International Airport set a new record last year, with more than four million passengers using the airport.
