A youth is recovering in hospital after being rescued from the Red River Friday afternoon.

At around 4:10 p.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a male youth in the Red River near Bishop Grandin Boulevard and River Road. The 9-1-1 caller reported that the person began floating northward while sitting on a log.

The WFPS Water Rescue team launched their Zodiac boat and brought the youth safely to shore at 4:49 p.m.

He was assessed by paramedics on scene and transported to hospital in stable condition.

It is not known how long the individual was in the water or why.

WFPS responded to approximately 150 water rescue calls last year.
