A 37-year-old Winnipeg man is facing impaired driving-related offences following an incident earlier this week in Portage la Prairie.

According to police, at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Sept. 13, an RCMP officer was clearing from a call on 6th Avenue NE when he observed a vehicle driving extremely slow in the area.

The officer followed the vehicle a short distance, observing the vehicle start and stop in the middle of the roadway. The officer activated his emergency lights and the vehicle slowly pulled into a driveway on Oak Bay.

Police say the driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested and taken to the Portage la Prairie RCMP Detachment to provide breath samples, which proved to be well over double the legal limit to drive a motor vehicle.

The man was also driving with a suspended license and faces charges of impaired operation of a conveyance, operation while impaired over 80mg%, and operation while prohibited.

He was released to appear in court at a later date. The vehicle he was driving was not his and was impounded for 60 days.
