Pet owners are being cautioned after two serious incidents in the Minto neighborhood.

The Winnipeg Police Service is asking pet owners to be on guard after receiving two reports of poisoned dogs.

Owners confirm that plastic bags containing rat poison was thrown over their fences into their yards. One dog had died and the other was treated and released.

Police is reminding people that animal cruelty is an offence.

"Pet owners are encouraged to report any suspicious circumstances that involve their pet consuming a poisonous substance being thrown into their yard. Seek veterinary assistance immediately," the WPS says in a statement.

They are asking people who may have seen something regarding animal poisoning to contact them, and immediately take their pet to receive medical treatment.
