Join Life's Vision Manitoba and many other pro-life advocates tomorrow as they March for Life at the Manitoba Legislature.

Life's Vision Manitoba Inc. Interim Executive Director Cam MacDonald shared that the mission of the organization is not to necessarily protest, but rather to educate and raise awareness among Manitobans about the issue of abortion.

MacDonald says that Life's Vision will be participating annual in the event Thursday, made possible by numerous pro-life organizations and churches across Canada.

The March this year will focus significantly on legalized abortion in Canada, as well as other end-of-life actions such as euthanasia.

"It's very key to realize that there are about 100,000 abortions per year in Canada and that there is no protection for unborn human life at any stage before birth," MacDonald shared.

According to the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada, in 2015, 3,759 were performed in Manitoba, which decreased to 3,668 in 2016, and 3,490 in 2017.

The concerning portion of the abortion statistics, however, comes in reviewing the increase of abortions taking place past 21 weeks gestation.

For MacDonald, who himself was born at only 29 weeks gestation, the growing numbers of abortions in the second and third trimester hit home.

"In Canada... there is no protection for unborn human life at any stage before birth" -Cam Macdonald

Abortions occurring at 21 weeks or later in Canada jumped from 587 to 706 over the course of two years.

MacDonald personally struggles with the concept of abortion due to his own experiences. The interim executive director was born one of two twins and has lived with Cerebral Palsy his whole life, which impacts his ability to walk, write, and drive.

"I'm disabled," said MacDonald, "and I see time and time again people who diagnose [unborn children] with disabilities prenatally and then they are targeted for abortion.

"It's something that is very difficult for me to comprehend... I am disabled but that doesn't really mean anything," said MacDonald, who believes it is important to stand and address the issues of abortion that many individuals face for a variety of reasons.

"We all have a role to play."

Catholic and Protestant prayer meetings will be held before the March at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 9.

Life's Vision Manitoba will gather for the annual March for Life on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislature at 11:45 a.m. The March will begin at noon, and will include testimonials and closing prayer.
