Winnipeg residents can rest easy knowing a "large" snake is off the streets.

On Saturday, Winnipeg residents near Ebby Avenue learnt of a creature slithering through their neighbourhood's gardens and yards. While there were sightings, the snake remained on the loose until Monday.

"Officers have safely located the snake in the 600 block of Pembina Hwy. It has been turned over to Animal Services," the Winnipeg Police Service tweets.

The snake, first believed to have been eight feet long, took a smaller stance as it was held by an officer who posed with the animal outside of a storefront.

Why the snake crossed the road remains unknown.
