The Community Services and Park Committee announced that the aquatic play areas will be operational again starting on Saturday, May 28.

"After a long winter, we're thrilled to finally begin opening our outdoor aquatic amenities, beginning with spray pads tomorrow. We're ready to welcome visitors of all ages to enjoy these outdoor attractions, whether for fun, exercise, or to cool down during the summer months," said Sherri Rollins, Chairperson of the City's Protection, Community Services and Parks Committee.

Whyte Ridge Community Centre is excepted to receive a new spray pad that will be available to the public in the summer of 2023.

The City of Winnipeg broke ground today on the new project. It will be 3,000-square-feet, accessible to all and will include other park features such as asphalt pathways and seating area, fencing, benches, picnic tables, bike racks, shade structures, and upgraded landscaping.

"The southwest area of Winnipeg is greatly lacking in aquatic venues and to have an accessible and free option in this area is incredibly exciting for all the surrounding communities," said Kimberley O'Hara, President, Whyte Ridge Community Centre. "We are very thankful to our funding partners at the City, Province, and Government of Canada for helping to make this a reality."

The project has a Council-approved budget of $1 million, with $225,000 of the project budget funded through the City’s Land Dedication Reserve Fund, $400,000 from the provincial share of the Canada Community-Building Fund, and $375,000 from the Canada Community Revitalization Fund.

Hours of operation for the spray pads are from 9:30 am-8:30 pm. More information on spray pad locations and operation statuses can be found on the City of Winnipeg website.

It is recommended that children under the age of 12 years old be under the supervision of an adult.

Outdoor pools are expected to open throughout June. With heated pools announced to begin operation on Monday, June 20, and unheated pools on Thursday, June 30. Wading pools plan to open on Friday, July 1.
